「ニョニャ・クバヤ」はマレーシアにある多数の民族衣装の一つです。他民族のマレーシアではそれぞれの民族が持っている民族衣装がいっぱいあります。その中ではプラナカン女性の衣装クバヤはとっても素敵な刺繍が施してあって、とってもキュートです。
今回は期間限定のニョニャ・クバヤ販売会を見に行ってきました。やっぱり素敵でした。
デザイナーのコイ・ブンイエンさんがクバヤ一つ一つに丁寧に刺繍を施しているため一つのクバヤを仕上げるのには数週間から数ヶ月かかるそうです。
このクバヤの素敵なところはその刺繍はもちろん、女性らしさを強調したシルエットは民族衣装でありながらモダーンな服装にも合うところだと思います。スカートはジーンズにも合うので使い方は様々ですね。
今回の販売会は７月いっぱいまでなので興味が会ったら是非見に行ってください。販売会は神楽坂の椿屋というお店の中で行っています。

The Nyonya kebaya is one of the many traditional clothing of Malaysia. Among the many traditional clothing of the numerous ethnic in Malaysia, the Peranakan Nyonya kebaya is one of my favourites, for its beautiful embroidery.
I was at a nyonya kebaya exhibition in Kagurazaka and had a chance to see how the embroidery was made. The embroidery on each kebaya is made precisely and skillfully therefore according to Koid Boon Ean the designer of Kim's fashion , even an experienced kebaya maker would take from weeks to months to finish.
What makes kebaya special is not only the beautiful embroidery but also the design of the kebaya itself that makes the wearer look elegant. Although kebaya is a traditional wear, it can easily match with modern clothing such as a skirt or even a pair of jeans.
If you're in Tokyo and would like to take a peek at this wonderful art work, the exhibiton at Kagurazaka will be on until the end of this month. The exhibition is held in a local handcraft store, Tsubaki-ya.
